Custard Sauce

🥘 Ingredients

  • bourbon
    1 tbsp
  • cornstarch
    2.25 tsp
  • egg yolks
    2
  • half and half
    1.5 c
  • sugar
    2 tbsp
  • vanilla
    1 tbsp

🍳 Cookware

  • medium saucepan
  • balloon whisk

    Heat half and half in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat for ⏱️ 4 minutes or until it comes to a gentle simmer. Remove from heat.

    Use a balloon whisk on high speed to whisk together egg yolks , sugar , and cornstarch in a bowl until pale and creamy. Gradually whisk in the milk mixture on low speed. Add vanilla . Return to pan.
    egg yolks: 2, sugar: 2 tbsp, cornstarch: 2.25 tsp, vanilla: 1 tbsp

    Place over medium heat and stir with a wooden spoon for ⏱️ 8 minutes or until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Do not boil.

    Remove from heat. Stir in bourbon .

    Serve warm or store in an airtight container in the fridge until required.
